Gerard Way Gallery Piece Coming to New York

September 17th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

This year the music magazine, Alternative Press, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To commemorate the achievement, the magazine has brought together unique visual works of well known music artists. The Alternative Press 25th Anniversary Group Art Show first debúted at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles from on July 10, 2010 and ran until July 24. The gallery featured works made by Tim Armstrong of Rancid, Marilyn Manson, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, and many more, including Gerard Way. See M&G for more info.

Although the gallery is over, you can still have a change to view Gerard’s contribution, entitled Yellow. Well, at least if you live in or near New York City. The Alternative Press art show is coming to the Sloan Fine Art gallery at 128 Rivington St. New York, NY 10002 and will run from October 20 to 23. See Plug in Music for more information.

Have any of you who live in Southern California had a chance to see the show? What about those of you in the New York area? Are you planning on checking it out?

New Album Name Leaked?

September 16th, 2010 | | 5 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

It appears as though HMV, a British entertainment retail chain has leaked the name of My Chemical Romance’s upcoming album. As we reported earlier, HMV’s online store had listed the untitled album for release on November 22, 2010, but recently the site has added a name: Danger Days: True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The Killjoys was to be Gerard Way’s upcoming comic book collaboration announced at Comic Con 2009. The name would make sense since the spider motif that appeared in the original Killjoys promotional art has also resurfaced in Frank Iero’s recent lithograph, the Amazon.com exclusive Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock guitar strap, and Gerard’s recent gallery work Yellow.

What do you guys think? Is this the name of the upcoming album, or did HMV blow it?

Also, check out Gigwise.com, which is also reporting the story.

Hello from Vinny. Just thought I would put a pic up of the new litho since it just came in today. The back has all their signatures, and they all stamped it with their new signature logos, I’m assuming? You’re guess is as good as mine, but you can clearly see that Gerard’s stamp is the same as the new twitter account @PartyPoison, however matching the rest doesn’t seem to be as easy. I’ll also post a pic of their signatures all together and then a seperate close up of each one, for you guys. Leave any ideas and thoughts in the comments section [I want to know which othe rlogos correspond with the twitter accounts! :P ]

All their siggy’s.

New MCR Viral Video

September 13th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

A new video entitled “Zone Surveillance 1B” has been posted on the official My Chemical Romance YouTube channel. What does it mean? Your guess is as good as mine.

Gerard Way included a link to the video in a tweet he sent at approximatively 11:00 P.M. PDT. The full tweet was as follows: “How much can you boys and boys [sic] and girls blow this up- or do we have to lip-sync?http://youtu.be/ixAq6dWnh1I”.

Interestingly, the Twitter account of DrDeathDefying posted the same video a little bit before Gerard. The full tweet: “I caught a case of vma once during the helium wars- this is way scarier. Stay inside dust angels- http://youtu.be/ixAq6dWnh1I”. It is quite possible that DrDeathDefying is part of a viral marketing campaign for the new album, but there has been no confirmation from any official source. But then again, viral marketing means there is no official acknowledgment. So I guess I’ll leave that for you to decide.

Like Zach, I am a new helper for MCF. Some of you may know me from comment discussions from back in the day (before the boys in the band fell off the face of the earth :P ).

Anyways, Z-man pretty much summed up the news from the band and what’s going on with the site, just thought I would give a quick little hello, and introduce myself. =)

I love interaction with fans, and sharing stories and what not :P so if you ever want to get in contact vinny.7765@yahoo.com is my email or my.chem.7765@hotmail.com is my msn messenger.

Hopefully next time I’ll have something worthwhile to share with you. ;)

MCR News Roundup

September 11th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

As I am sure most of you know, My Chemical Romance is gearing up to release their first album is four years. Here’s a roundup of the recent news:

August 26: The above picture, “Look alive, sunshine…”, was posted on Gerard Way’s Twitter account. It appears to be lyrics from the new album. Read on and you will see why.

September 3: In a press release, Electronic Arts announces that the video game The Sims 3: Late Night will feature an original, never-before heard MCR song called “Na Na Na”. The name of this song can be seen repeated over and over in Gerard’s picture from earlier. The game is slated for release on October 26.

September 4: The band’s official website is temporarily replaced with an interactive TV. No other features of the site were accessible.

September 7: The band’s official website is rebooted. The interactive TV is gone, but a post by Frank Iero explains that the new album is done and will be coming out soon. He also announced his final limited-edition photo print, which sold out within hours. The print features the familiar silhouette of a spider. The spider was promotional art from Gerard’s upcoming comic book, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The comic was announced at Comic-Con 2009 and was slated for (but it almost certainly will not be) release this year. It was to be co-written by Gerard and Shaun Simon (who was also the former keyboardist from Frank’s old band, Pency Prep) and illustrated by Becky Cloonan. The spider also recently appeared on the exclusive MCR guitar strap that comes with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock if pre-ordered at Amazon.com. The game comes out on September 28.

Since then there have been some grumblings on fan sites about Twitter accounts related the the album. These could be part of viral marketing campaign, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Also, HMV, a British entertainment retail chain, has listed the as-yet-unnamed album on their Web site for pre-order. The date listed is November 8, 2010; however there is no guarantee that this is the final release date.

More announcements about the upcoming album will almost certainly be on the way, so stay tuned to My Chemical Freak for all the latest MCR news!

Hi From Zach

September 9th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

Hi everyone! I’ll be helping Brandi with the site for a while.

You probably don’t know me because I don’t post a lot of comments, but I have been a frequent visitor to the site ever since it went online back in 2008. Before that I would check on other My Chemical Romance fansites, but they didn’t seem to last long and none of them were as expansive as this one.

Anyway, it seems like the band’s gearing up for the release of their next album, so I’ll be doing my best to post all the latest news to keep you all informed.
