Ok this is cool and weird at the same time. I am psyched because my husband insists that we watch this show and now I will get to hear at least SOME music I like performed. But I am not so happy because I am sure if not the right person singing it, it will be surely butchered haha!
Here is the 411 (up to this point):
Apparently American Idol has the go-ahead to use MCR’s song “SING” as a performance tune for the show.
Gerard says: “We don’t know for sure, but any kind of infiltration is great, so the offer was pretty much a no-brainer. It’s something a lot of people are going to see and they’ll hear the music which is the most important thing.”

For those of you who don’t know, PlayStation Home is Sony’s online social gaming networking service on the PlayStation 3. To be honest, I don’t know much more than that. According to Sony, if you head over to the Central Plaza or Theater (in the virtual world of PlayStation Home) you can pick up the above costume designed by My Chemical Romance to promote Gran Turismo 5, the upcoming game which will feature the song “Planetary (GO!)”. Hi guys! I had a great time at the mini-concert for Jimmy Kimmel Live! and I thought I would share my experience with you all.
The first thing you should know is that I had absolutely no concept of time because I didn’t have my phone with me and I forgot to bring a watch. The ticket to the performance explicitly prohibited phones. Not too sure why, but I didn’t bring mine with me because I didn’t want any trouble. It didn’t really matter anyways, because most people brought theirs and they weren’t kicked out or anything. :/
Anyway, the wait wasn’t that long and we got to hear the sound check while waiting in line (they played “Na Na Na” and “SING” over and over). Once inside the parking lot with the outdoor stage we got to watch the show on a TV screen while waiting for the band to come out. The parking lot was surprisingly small and it didn’t feel cramped despite all the people there. It was really nice because everyone had a great view of the stage. There was also a special box seating area for like five people or something from KROQ (Los Angeles’s major alternative/rock radio station).
Towards the end of the show, this middle-aged bald guy in a suit came out and basically mocked the entire crowd. He had us all clap and cheer for the camera and introduced the band. All the members came out on stage and took their places. There was also a keyboardist, not too sure who it was.
Jimmy Kimmel came out to introduce the band and the first song they played was “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)”, which was broadcasted on the show. The band seemed relaxed and Gerard kept doing goofy things with his tongue. After the song was over the band took a minute brake and waited for Jimmy Kimmel to get back on stage to introduce them again for the song “SING”, which was played for the credits of the show. In addition to the guitarists singing backup vocals, there were also three female singers (Vonda Shepard, Carmen Carter, and Lori Perry), which made the performance pretty unique.
After the song, Gerard rhetorically asked, “Can we do whatever we want now?” They then played “Planetary (GO!)” which the crowd jumped to. However the crowd was pretty calm until the next song. As soon as they started playing “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” the crowd began thrashing around. Everyone was moving and bumping into each other.
We remained intimately close until the end of the the next song, which Gerard open up with, “This one’s for us.” This was a reference to the band’cs new favorite song to perform, “The Kids from Yesterday”. As the song ended each member of the band left the stage while the others played. First Gerard, then Ray, and then Frank. Mikey was the last one playing his bass on stage (he really seemed to enjoy the limelight). As soon as he finished his last cord he threw his pick into the crowd and left the stage.
The crowd then started chanting, “One more song” and before we new it the band was back on stage. Gerard interacted with the crowd with a repeat-after-me thing (he sings “hay-o” and has the crowd repeated) and then the band played Helena. The crowd went crazy again. After the song, the band members thanked the audience and exited the stage. The host (not Jimmy Kimmel, the weird bald guy) came out, thanked the crowd and started dancing to “Icky Thump” by the White Stripes, which was playing on the speakers. That was pretty much everyone’s cue to start leaving.
Overall I had a great time. The performance was longer then expected. I though they would play three songs at most, but they ended up playing six, including the encore. The venue was great, but the band didn’t seem as excited as I had hoped. I guess they’re taking it easy. This was primarily a promotional TV performance, after all. Anyway, I have get back to watching replays of the footage. I haven’t found my head in the crowd yet.
These are strange seasons for Way and his band, who deliver their fourth studio album, “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys,” on Nov. 22 and have just announced a world tour that finds them back from the brink of despair and bitter breakup. What was their salvation? Comic books, old sci-fi films and drum machines, it turns out, as well as the healing exercise of recording an entire “safe” rock album, scrapping it and starting from scratch. —Geoff Boucher
