Gerard Way and Lynz in Art Exhibit

March 30, 2009 — 4:19 pm — Comments: 3 CommentsContact Brandi

“In Anthony’s “Venice,” people brush their teeth with bottled water as waves roll behind them, play tennis, ride bikes and dance while holding Venetian carnival masks. The models — including actors Emily Deschanel and Jacinda Barrett, artist Mercedes Helnwein and musicians Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and Lyn-Z (Mindless Self Indulgence) — wade through a knee deep sea, appearing like miniature figures against the vast expanse of water and sky that surrounds them.

My Chemical Romance Venganza! Screening and Album Info!

March 28, 2009 — 2:37 pm — Comments: 6 CommentsContact Brandi

The MCRmy had a contest to win pre-screening of the Venganza! videos and I was selected to go. On Friday the 27th we all met at the Warner Bros. office and led us into this nice room with a big screen and huge speakers with this big wooden table and swivel chairs all around. They let kids who were under 18 bring another person but I suspect some people cheated and brought someone anyway. No matter, there was about thirty people there and 25 were chosen.

Before we started this nice guy Xavier talked to us a bit and introduced some people who work for My Chem. There was this girl named Rachel who runs their MySpace, Facebook, and website and puts up information that the band wants us to know. There were some other people like art directors and stuff but I don’t remember their names. (Sorry!)  They had one of the Venganza! sets already and let us pass it around and look at it and let us try on the vest. Btw, that bullet USB is hard to open, don’t twist it.

Right away, they pulled out the signed guitar by the band that was promised as the grand prize and shuffled some papers around with our names on it to decide the winner. As they picked it up everyone held their breath, I was hoping I got it so badly. Unfortunately, I didn’t win but some nice younger girl named Daisy won it. It was nice, it was a black guitar with all the band’s signatures on it in silver sharpie. But they still gave out other stuff to everyone else too. They had some merch that aren’t in the store yet like this adorable little black bag covered in the My Chemical Romance logo and some new shirts that look pretty cool. Pretty soon they let everyone just choose what they wanetd because I already had most of the shirts. They gave everyone a signed Black Parade booklet. I got this t-shirt with a flag with the Three Cheers gun swirl logo and my aunt got the black polo shirt with the little coffin embroidery. They also gave us all these Black Parade poster type things as well. Then they asked us our opinions about the merch! They let openly talk about what we want in the future like girlier designs and more colored t-shirts. We were all, “Black is fine but there’s only so many black t-shirts we can own…”. We told them to get backpacks, shoes, ties, guitar picks, guitar straps, a bunch of cool stuff that would be awesome to have. This one guy also mentioned the Three Cheers arm bands that I have been searching for forever and he mentioned that they were $100 on E-Bay. They took notes of all our opinions and hinted that some new stuff will be hitting the stores in a few weeks.

They also told us a bit about the new album. Nothing exciting, just that they were heading in a new direction and it was very exciting and that we would love it. They mentioned that they’ve heard some of it and it should be coming by the end of the year along with a tour. Xavier said, “It’s not gonna be as dark but it’s still going to be edgy.” He mentioned something about optimistic too whatever that means. They played the videos with the bullet USB they had already and said they had just gotten it uploaded that morning and was just a test one.

Right away the menu looked nice and played Helena with clips from the live show. It was pretty much like The Black Parade Is Dead! but with the Revenge encore instead. All in all, Gerard was hilarious and the rest of the band shredded especially Ray.  They showed Gerard way too much but that’s alright. It showed when Gerard made the
guys swing their shirts above their head before “Prison”. They mentioned the USB is not locked and the pictures it comes with can be saved into your pictures. The menu had a gallery of pictures and some mysterious thing labeled PDF that they said they weren’t allowed to show us. They also told that they only made 5,000 of the Venganza! packages and they had already sold half of it so pre-order yours ASAP if you’re afraid of missing it. Afterwards, they asked us our opinion of it and we were pretty much unanimous that it was amazing. Some girls complained about the editing and said it was too choppy but I thought it was just fine. They assured us that by the time they’re shipped out that it would be flawless and in high-def. They also told us a message from the band that they really appreciated their fans and especially the ones that traveled just to be there and they were glad they stick with them. After asking us our opinion of the website they mentioned that it was about to get more complex with a bunch of stuff to click on. They also mentioned that MCR is in the room we were in all the time planning all their products out and that everything is approved by them. Also people like Eric Clapton and Van Halen has been in there as well so that was pretty exciting. So everyone was pretty nice including all the fans there although I should have expected them to if they were in the MCRmy. I had loads of fun and if I forgot anything I apologize. I took some pictures on my phone but they didn’t turn
out too well but I had a great time.
