KISS-FM Interview with My Chemical Romance

Seattle Show Review

By Brett Cooper

First of all, I will say that I just set a personal record in how quickly I can do a
round trip to a show, from Anchorage, Alaska, and back. 39 hours to Seattle back.
Whew!

Got to the Showbox Sodo at about 12:30 yesterday. The line was surprisingly not very
long, but there were clearly people who had camped out all night. I got there early
to mainly take advantage of the parking since I had read online that the parking at
Showbox Sodo was dicey.

Took my place in line at about 1. Very cold day, hovering in the mid-40′s,
occasionally raining. Met some nice fans from the Portland area and one from
Olympia–Allie, Justin, and Maddie. We would end up spending the next 8 hours
together.

Saw one of the Party Poison jackets that were being sold online for about $200 out
of China and a couple PP jackets that had been sold at mcr.com. I’m still waiting on
mine. Bottom line is that the Chinese versions are much truer to Gerard’s and the
attention to detail is pretty amazing. Still, the mcr.com version is cool enough,
just a few more stylistic differences and a little less detail, but I suppose that’s
to be expected for a mass-produced version.

Doors opened promptly at 6:30. The Showbox was tiny! Very intimate, and started
smelling like a bus fairly early on. Went to the merch stands and got a tshirt and a
hoodie that is based off of Party Poison’s jacket.

The Architects and Neon Trees were decent openers, I actually really enjoyed them.
MCR took the stage a little after 9, coming out to “Na Na Na.” Some of the setlist
surprises of the night included “Destroya” and a whalloping version of “Vampires
Will Never Hurt You” as the finale of the night. Never considered it a closing song,
but it worked really well. I find it great that they’re incorporating songs from
Bullets into the setlist. The band was extremely tight, Gerard’s voice was probably
the strongest I’d ever seen it, and the crowd was one of the most well-behaved MCR
crowds I had been in.

I pulled out of the Showbox parking lot a little after 11, checked out of my hotel
room, and was back in Anchorage by 8:30 this morning. Ready for the next show.
Killjoys, there’s more noise to make.

Thanks Brett for the pics and the review!
