Transmissions update

October 17th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

If you haven’t visited the transmissions tab on the band’s website recently, then you’re missing out.  There are a few more static-obstructed clips and a weather report by Better Living Industries.

Also there is yet another song about horses.  When the transmissions page was first posted, the song that played was “A Horse with No Name” by America, then it was “Goodbye Horses” by Q Lazzarus, and now it’s “Horse Latitudes” by The Doors.  What’s the significance?  I don’t know.

Gerard Way Gallery Piece Coming to New York

September 17th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

This year the music magazine, Alternative Press, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To commemorate the achievement, the magazine has brought together unique visual works of well known music artists. The Alternative Press 25th Anniversary Group Art Show first debúted at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles from on July 10, 2010 and ran until July 24. The gallery featured works made by Tim Armstrong of Rancid, Marilyn Manson, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, and many more, including Gerard Way. See M&G for more info.

Although the gallery is over, you can still have a change to view Gerard’s contribution, entitled Yellow. Well, at least if you live in or near New York City. The Alternative Press art show is coming to the Sloan Fine Art gallery at 128 Rivington St. New York, NY 10002 and will run from October 20 to 23. See Plug in Music for more information.

Have any of you who live in Southern California had a chance to see the show? What about those of you in the New York area? Are you planning on checking it out?

MCR News Roundup

September 11th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

As I am sure most of you know, My Chemical Romance is gearing up to release their first album is four years. Here’s a roundup of the recent news:

August 26: The above picture, “Look alive, sunshine…”, was posted on Gerard Way’s Twitter account. It appears to be lyrics from the new album. Read on and you will see why.

September 3: In a press release, Electronic Arts announces that the video game The Sims 3: Late Night will feature an original, never-before heard MCR song called “Na Na Na”. The name of this song can be seen repeated over and over in Gerard’s picture from earlier. The game is slated for release on October 26.

September 4: The band’s official website is temporarily replaced with an interactive TV. No other features of the site were accessible.

September 7: The band’s official website is rebooted. The interactive TV is gone, but a post by Frank Iero explains that the new album is done and will be coming out soon. He also announced his final limited-edition photo print, which sold out within hours. The print features the familiar silhouette of a spider. The spider was promotional art from Gerard’s upcoming comic book, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The comic was announced at Comic-Con 2009 and was slated for (but it almost certainly will not be) release this year. It was to be co-written by Gerard and Shaun Simon (who was also the former keyboardist from Frank’s old band, Pency Prep) and illustrated by Becky Cloonan. The spider also recently appeared on the exclusive MCR guitar strap that comes with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock if pre-ordered at Amazon.com. The game comes out on September 28.

Since then there have been some grumblings on fan sites about Twitter accounts related the the album. These could be part of viral marketing campaign, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Also, HMV, a British entertainment retail chain, has listed the as-yet-unnamed album on their Web site for pre-order. The date listed is November 8, 2010; however there is no guarantee that this is the final release date.

More announcements about the upcoming album will almost certainly be on the way, so stay tuned to My Chemical Freak for all the latest MCR news!
