My Chemical Romance Piano Tribute, Volume 2

January 13th, 2011 | | 2 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

Usually tribute albums are meant to confuse old ladies buying CDs from the bargain bin for their grandchildren. There are a lot of crappy tribute albums out there, but My Chemical Romance Piano Tribute, Volume 2 is not of those. Back in 2006, the Piano Tribute Players released a tribute album to My Chemical Romance, which was well received by fans (CLICK HERE to see the Amazon.com description page). This week, they’ve followed up with a second volume with ten songs from Danger Days, beautifully arranged for the piano. The album is available on CD and for MP3 download. CLICK HERE to see the description page on Amazon.com and hear samples of the tracks.

Consequence of Sound looks at “Three Cheers”

October 16th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

Winston Robbins of music blog Consequence of Sound was never crazy about My Chemical Romance.  In fact he wrote them of early as a bland emo band.  But worry not my friends, he has since seen the light and is now a believer.  After finally listening the band’s second studio album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, he has come to the conclusion that the album is “a modern punk masterpiece”. Here’s a quote:

What make[s] My Chem different is their unending versatility. They take that pop-punk and can add to it any number of things. They can give you that edge-of-your-seat Pantera riffing on songs like “Thank You For The Venom”, and then two minutes later have you convinced that you might be listening to a shoegazing Blonde Redhead.

“Alternative Press” reviews “Danger Days”

October 9th, 2010 | | 0 Comments | Email My Chemical Freak!

Alternative Press has released its review of Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The review is pretty positive, with the album getting a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Here’s an excerpt:

While My Chemical Romance’s former peers have either embraced conceptual introspection (Thursday) or retreated from the spotlight altogether (Brand New), on Danger Days, MCR have fully followed their own larger-than-life creative vision. If nothing else, it’s admirable to see a band in their situation following their muse without worrying about pissing off diehard fans in the process.
