This is so sad and upsetting. This is proof yet again that the music moguls do not understand one single thing about this band. I didn’t even want to post this. BUT I am and am hoping you all fill his comment box full of your one sided opinions! They know jack!
“Really, My Chemical Romance’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys deserved better. A big, bold re-invention of their sound and swagger, it was, by the band’s own admission, a “missile” aimed at destroying the staid state of rock and roll, and perhaps because of that fact, it failed to catch on here in the states. ”

it’s actually not a bad article, the person is saying that it sucks that Danger Days didn’t catch on in the united states and Warner wouldn’t finance another Killjoy video, the last paragraph is really nice..

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! MTV doesnt know jack about what MCR is truly all about, in fact this is probably my favorite video so far! It really shows how much MCR has really grown up, and it almost brought tears to my eyes to see how MCR made an amazing thing, then made it even more awesome. You should write a letter to MTV telling them that they don’t know anything about what MCR stands for.

Okay… I don’t even fucking know whay MTV was attempting to say. They were kinda just throwing out a bunch of shit THEY think about MCR, which they shouldn’t be doing because that is not what news is about. I wouldn’t even call that fucking news. It was pretty much them throwing out what THEY had problems with, well with MCR. It was informing people of shit, it was them saying their opinion. Get a fucking blog MTV because your feelings aren’t part of the damn news… fucking pricks. Also, MCR was doing what they wanted, danger days was wonderful, they didn’t let me down at all. It had been my favorite concept/story. So they are gonna do whatever they want to fucking do.

Ok yes they were “nice” at the end but did you READ the first 2 paragraphs? What I mean is they are hating on the VIDEO. I think it was kinda awesome they chose a fan’s video. I mean no it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of a highly paid producer, but if you are like me and I feel like you are or you wouldn’t b reading this site to begin with… you know what they were trying to get across with the video and giving a fan an opportunity like that. Bands can take lessons on how to conduct themselves in the world from THIS BAND. No it wasn’t insanely popular here. Well none of them have been in MS. I am probably one out of 100 fans in this state. That is always the way it has been here. Who cares how much money they make off a single OR a video, or even how much it costs to make. They wanted to say something with that video and while it does look like a “fan made” video… That is their point!
I didn’t like it and while yes they got nice at the end you don’t start out hating on something you don’t get.

But their issues with the video shows they didn’t get what the band was trying to say at all. Would do them some good to pay attention at other times instead of just when they do something in MTV’s so many words… “cheap”. That is all they got out of the video. It was a little irritating to me. But then again maybe I am just more sensitive to the sensitive side of things. Not saying you aren’t but you know me I am girly and emotional when it comes to this band. Not over them as people, but I hate when they sell them short for something that didn’t “come out with a bang” so to speak.

I just don’t like the article and the over all feel of the things they were saying at the beginning. Sure they summed it up right nice, but why hate in the first place. They didn’t get it clearly.

And I don’t expect everyone to accept everything that they put out like it is gold served on a platter but look a little deeper, read Frank’s statement about the video if they didn’t and know that it was more than a low budget video. It probably meant more to Emily (the video’s maker) than getting married or having kids will ever to her. LOL!

Yeah, i understand what you mean. It was about the idea behind the video and they didn’t get that. I do feel like the video could have been made with some footage fans haven’t seen before though so it would be a little bit more special.

yeah I agree with Heather, it’s actually not too bad an article. The first 2 paragraphs are about the album not catching on here in the States. I do agree that it sounds like there are some negative undertones to it but I think it’s just the lack of quality writing on his part. I mean I could be wrong and he could totally be slamming MCR but reading it (or trying to anyway) from a non-biased opinion it sounds like he thinks the band won’t get any more interest in the album from any more releases. He just doesn’t articulate that message very well. What they don’t get is that the release of the Kids video wasn’t for the purpose of generating interest in the album but rather to pay tribute to the 10 years they have been together and celebrate everything they have accomplished. MTV is just ready to move to the next album which is dumb because it generates pointless articles!

I just read the article & went in actually thinking it was going to be worse than it was :/ I understand where he’s coming from but I don’t think he said it right exactly…the author is actually a huuge fan of theirs. Read his other articles on them.
How I interpret it is that he’s saying about how the ‘public’ (not meaning the fan base) but, say the general MTV viewing audience, aren’t getting it. He said straight up, the people that matter are getting it & sales are not what matter in a great band. But he was just putting forward what he sees to be happening. That rock bands from the last generation are kind of fading out & not the hot thing anymore (compare to how MCR, FOB, etc were in say, 2004-2006)…& I agree it’s not ‘news’ but each blogger on ‘MTV News’ has their personality & it’s basically like close to his personal blog but on a larger scale :S
It didn’t make me happy exactly, but the last article made me proud.
Not trying to start drama at all, I love your blog <3

First of all, James Montgomery does not equal MTV as a whole. He does get it, probably better than anyone else at MTV ever will. (Remember when he called Danger Days the “perfect rock album”?) He’s also an excellent writer, so any problems you have with the article aren’t because of his lack of writing skill.
When we first saw this video, a lot of people thought it wasn’t a real music video because it looks so low-budget. A lot of fans, myself included, wondered if money might be the reason. You can love a band and still understand the financial realities of what being a band entails. They could have not released another video or done a poor-quality video, but instead they released one made by a fan. I can say that that decision was probably spurred in part by a lack of money for a higher-production video while still loving that they chose to go with a video made by a fan. They don’t negate each other.
I’ve read a lot of articles by James Montgomery, so I know where he’s coming from (he’s a guy who actually likes good music and for some reason works at MTV and can also be very sarcastic and a bit arrogant, which is why I love him) and it’s also possible that his writing is going over your heads, but what he’s saying is basically that My Chemical Romance is awesome and the general record-buying public is stupid. (Other things he’s written indicate that he thinks both of those things, and I don’t disagree.) When he says Danger Days “deserved better” he means (I think) that it is an incredible album with two kick-ass music videos, and deserved better both in terms of sales and the last music video. You may love this video, but I, as a fan, who definitely “gets” MCR, would personally loved to have seen another Killjoys video.
I honestly fail to see how this article could be construed as “hating” on My Chemical Romance, or, quite frankly, the “Kids” video either. He is complementary about the video and essentially gushes about the band and its music. I love this band and what they do and what they stand for, but I don’t love this fandom’s tendency to get overly defensive when there is no reason to do so. There is no reason to be upset about an article on MTV that is complementary to My Chemical Romance and their music. Being honest about how their record sold doesn’t mean that he doesn’t like the music. He obviously does. And you know what? I love this band – the music, the guys, their message, everything – and I liked James’ article a lot. I thought it did justice to its subject matter, which is more than I can necessarily say for many other fans of My Chemical Romance.

I don’t think this article is that bad!
‘Really, My Chemical Romance’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys deserved better’
He obviously thinks the album is really good but maybe he doesn’t have that emotional connection to them. I can see how the video can be a disappointment to people who haven’t followed the band for years because it doesn’t really relate to them as much as it does to us.
‘You could practically track its decline ‘
I don’t like that bit but then the rest of the paragraph is basically fact. It is true that the first 2 had a higher budget.
He shows that he understands what the message of danger days is and only says positive things about the band in the last paragraphs.
does anyone agree with me?

This is my opinion and I run the site. I didn’t mean anything against the giant “MTV” I was just irritated that they didn’t seem to “get” the idea behind it. All they saw was that it was “low budget” and funded “by the band themselves”. I think they meaning the author of the article and MTV (who btw shouldn’t even comment on music anymore since they never PLAY hardly any lol) should take their heads out of their ass and know that money isn’t everything.
I am so happy that you support the article.

Maybe my use of hate is misconstrued. I don’t think they HATE MCR. I think they were HATING on the video. Meaning talking “bad” about it. Probably shouldn’t use slang words people around my parts are accustomed too. Very sorry.

i think what he meant by this is that the album deserved a better reception from the public and that it should have been more financially successful

I am not being ugly I am simply saying I think everyone thinks that I meant MTV and the author hates MCR. I meant they were talking down about the video. I just was defensive and felt they shouldn’t have. It was simply my opinion. Sorry I pissed you all off. My apologies.
