They’re annoying me with the Day of the Dead masks. First of all, it was supposed to be for the LIMITED edition of TBPID!. And then they sell them so anyone could get them, making it NOT limited anymore.
And now they take 30% off the shipping? Come on… :|

I don’t know. I don’t like the way the merch stuff works for them.

Haha I know what you mean.

But it’s not like many people have them. I mean, they are pretty expensive.

Agreed.
I hate all the “OMG ONLY 500 LEFT. YOU MUST ORDER YOURS NOW.” type emails too.

There is no point ordering ‘limited edition’ because there never really that limited. -__-

I guess it is just Warner trying to make as much money off of them as possible.

Yeaa, but then again, they have managed to sell off the bundles. There’s only one bundle still up :|

I’m with Marie on this one. I am a rock memorabilia collector, and I know how limited edition collectibles work. When the coffin box edition of TBPID was made available, I immediately jumped (same goes for last November when I ordered the limited edition of The Black Parade double vinyl). Anything done in a limited edition run is going to become instantly collectible and appreciate in value as soon as they’re sold-out. When I got mine, I was quite pleased. But, like Marie, I became a little upset when all the masks were made available. This happened either because they made too many masks versus coffin boxes, in which case I guess it’s okay for them to sell off the surplus, or this was planned all along. My guess is the latter. What this does is instantly devalue the collectibility and rarity of the coffin boxes. In other words, it’s kind of a shaft to those who were on the ball and purchased the coffin boxes. In the end, the jury is still out on how much this has damaged the collectibility of the pinewood edition, as they’re regularly selling for anywhere from $200-$500 on eBay, and even more for the boxes that have Gerard’s mask. Time will tell. Personally, I think the best of the “special limited edition” items that have been spun-off of The Black Parade is the 2-disc vinyl; the packaging is superb and is an ultra high-quality item; well worth the $50 I spent a year ago.

And to address what Serena said, these items were expensive, all the coffin boxes sold-out. Concert tickets are expensive, and MCR sells-out virtually every venue, every city, every night, the play. There are always parents out there who are willing to shell out the bucks for their kids, or like me, be in your 30′s and make enough $$$$ to travel all over the country seeing them. Funny because my girlfriend said once that I’m the kind of adult that emo kids want to grow up to be. Not generalizing that all MCR fans are emo, but I hope you get the gist of what I’m saying here.

Sidenote: after seeing the most recent tour 5 times, in different regions of the country, I say that MCR could have toured for the next 5 years on The Black Parade and STILL be performing to near-sell out houses at the end in 2013. Just sayin’.

I couldn’t agree more. I think it should have remained only something you could get in with the bundle.

Yea, I’m definitely with Brett on the whole limited edition issue.
All the limited edition buyers got was the actual pinewood coffin and the death certificate. Which – tbh – anyone could scan and sell.

I also bought the 2 set vinyl limited edition of TBP, and was fairly happy with it. However, I think it should have said on the website that the booklet that followed, was the same booklet for the standard CD limited edition packet. Because I now have 2 copies of that booklet, and 2 CD copies + all the 7″ vinyls and the normal sized vinyl set from that limited edition.

Where I’m getting at with this, is that they’re leaving information out in order to earn more money. Basically tricking people into buying things they think is limited, or original.
I have to save up and work to get money for this stuff, and it’s really frustrating to be disappointed with a buy like that.

This all being said, I think it’s all Warner’s fault, tbh. I don’t think the actual band has anything to do with the proceedings of merch selling any more.

Trust me, the band *does* have input on the merchandising side of it. Most bands, if they’re smart, will have a finger involved with merchandising, especially tour shirts, because nearly 100% of the sales of shirts and clothing go to the bands’ pockets whereas they get pennies on the dollar for every album sold. This is proven to the extreme when you look at bands such as KISS and Metallica. KISS pretty much made the blueprint for band merchandising. As far as the contents of the booklet(s) for TBP double vinyl, maybe I’m pyschic, but I pretty much assumed that the booklets would be a reprint of the 70-page’r from the deluxe CD edition. Did I hope that there would be some extra content? As Sarah Palin says, “you betcha.” While we’re on the subject of disappointments in merchandising, I was *really* hoping for some extras on TBPID DVD. I was hoping that it would be done like Green Day’s “Bullet In a Bible” was, and probably if Sam Bayer had directed the concert filming, it would have been more like it. But alas. At this juncture, I just hope that the encore that undoubtedly happened after the main concert will be released as an EP DVD or a download on iTunes.

Truee. I guess I just don’t like the idea of MCR kind of using the fans that way :/ It makes me sad, and try to deny it I guess.

I have to agree with you on TBIPD!, but I wasn’t really expecting anything more than the actual live shows, so I wasn’t disappointed :)
