My Chemical Freak: My Chemical Romance All The Time

Parents Launch Site Against My Chemical Romance and Other “emo” Bands

This is just insane!  Read below!

Gigwise has been informed about a website set up by parents who are worried about what they perceive as the ‘glorification of self-injury and suicide’ in emo music.

The in-depth website provides a guide as to why they believe emo inspires self injury and suicide, it also provides ‘tragic examples’, hard-hitting pictures, the dangers and what parents can do to protect their children.

They also outline bands and songs – most notably those of My Chemical Romance – which they believe spout dangerous messages to young people. You can see the site here

We were alerted to it by a commenter on a previous story, who wrote: “My daughter tried to kill herself. At first, she was a happy child, then she became emo. She said it was ‘emotional.’ She began cutting. She hid it at first, but we found out after she tried suicide.”

The comments come at a highly contentious time in the wake of the suicide of 13 year old Hannah Bond from Kent.

A coroner said that the type of music she listened to was “very disturbing”, while certain sections of the press published articles strongly condemning the genre of music she was listening to.

This inspired emo fans to protest outside The Daily Mail’s London offices over their treatment of the story.

My Chemical Romance also reacted by saying that they are categorically anti-violence and anti-suicide, denying that they ever promote it. They also sent out their condolences to Hannah Bond’s family.

However, this will have done nothing to appease the Parents Against Emo lobby, who write on their site:”When you see a group of people talking about pain, nothingness, self injury and suicide, should we then be surprised when we see them doing what they are talking about? Their music, poetry, and dress are all telling us something. When are we going to pay attention to what they are telling us?”

If anyone could give me the admin’s email address from that site I’d greatly appreciate it. My mother posted a bulletin and it was deleted. I’m guessing because they’re trying to convince the parents that the music their children are listening to is bad and they don’t want a good influence on their. Anyways they blocked my computer from the site so I can’t retrieve the email myself and It would be very helpful if someone could find it and give it to me. email me at
Thanks. :]

Would anyone be interested if I created a website explaining the other side of this issue? The admin on that site seem to disapprove of anything other than their own narrow-minded views, and it’s important that we get our story out.

Hell yeah!
MaryAnn I would be very interested, that would be so awesome.
We really do need to get our side ofthe story out there and stand up for what we belive in!
There is no way that a group of adults can bring down the power of MCR fans.We stick togather.Through the good and the bad. We’re always here for each other.
Jessica If i find it I’ll tell you.

The thing is, linking to sites like this only brings them more traffic, more publicity, and more search-engine mojo. The best thing to do is ignore them, and create instead sites like, which present the opposite side of the story, and offer proof – instead of wild allegations – of what bands like MCR are really about.

Thanks for your support, Sarah. I don’t know if I’ll be able to make a very good site, but I’ll get to work on it this week. It will probably be either freewebs or geocities because that’s all I can manage, though.

how in the hell they think panic at the disco and time to dance will make you suicide!!!
know any way to enter the blog or send a mail to the person who make this site?
he/she is saying to be a phsychologist or something and isn’t even getting the real meaning of some songs… wasn’t helena the name of gerard’s grandma, and the song about a car accident? idk, but there’s no suicide there. Here’s my mail if you know something

wtf is all of this? I mean there’s nothing bad with any of the bands like My Chemical Romance or Panic At The Disco, the people who is attempting against them only do it because they want our attention; do they really think that emos are suicidal and all that stuff because this bands tell us to? IT’S JUST MUSIC! what would they think if we were in the middle of 80’s and there were a group of angry parents trying to attempt against, I don’t know, one of their favorite bands like the bettles saying that they are giving us hide messages telling us to do rituals to devil or something? that’s what is happening now, they can’t stand the fact that MCR is one of the better band ever! I got very angry when I heard about this because I really like MCR, If this people knew the real meaning of this music they would like it too. mail me:

I meant Beatles, and middle of 60’s. (I was upset when I wrote it (sorry)).
ah! and Jamie is right, if we keep checking this kind of sites, we’d be only giving them publicity and inspiring them to do more stupid things.

Right. YOU PEOPLE PISS ME OFF. mcr DOES NOT CAUSE SUICIDE. It helps people come OUT of their problems. Look at the lyricse of Famous Last Words by mcr if you’re a concerned parent. Honestly…it’s one of they most positive songs i’ve heard in my life. It’s telling people never to give up and to KEEP LIVING.

Arrgggh. You parents make me want to commit suicide more than the music. You don’t know ANYTHING! You don’t even listen to it or give it a chance.

Shame we can’t comment on their website. I’m 24 and have loved MCR for a couple of years. The only time I was ever a tad depressed (not suicidal) was when I was 12, before new emo was around. Perhaps they should consider why they get so sad at this age. Could it eb because they are stuck between childhood and teenagerhood, discovering that they are not so special, realising their own religious beleifs, starting to experience or perceive death in their world and having feelings of love and lonleyness for the first time. All these emotions may lead to dispair that leads to cutting. I belive that the music of MCR allow emotions to be exocised without commiting this act. For many MCR save them from their own dispair because they deal with these issued. Perhaps the real problem is parents are scared to talk about death and just get scared that their little angel is starting to understand the world too much. Their growing up, start treating them like adults and embrase they maturity and perceptiveness. Let them know that there is hope and meaning in their life and that they are special. At 12, my uncle died and my dad had a nervous breakdown. They didn’t have the time to focus on me and I was starting to have thoughts about being insignificant and wrote about death in a diary. Everyone goes through this at some point. Parents need to try and relate.

ok when i read all the stuff on theyre sit i almost cried, so saddening that people nowadays cant tell the difference between pro suicide and anti suicide, that just makes us wanna be jk,, but they really need to keep theyre opinions to themselves if they dont want to here our side off the story. i hate the 21st century adults. atleast there not seeng those children they call emo,, wearing shortshorts and making fun of people and dating to the point of bieng a slut who get w/e they want. well,, this is just my opinion, that theyre not gonna listen to. my mom always call me emo ,, when i only listen to my chem and punk,, thats effing insane in the membrane dood.

That site is just ridiculous! You know what the parents would probably say though, right? They’d say that we’re “too young and impressionable to think for ourselves”. I’m going to go check out the site, but I bet it’s full of BS.

Listen im emo and i know what its like and know what causes it and ima tell u 1 thing it damn sure aint my chemical romance. parents just dont get that the more they go out and fight these ‘emo’ bands they leave us all alone and the bands realize that so they step in as the role of our parent through their music especially mcr they prevent suicide not encourage it if only our ‘parents’ can see that instead of abandoning us. Emos dont withdraw from parents. parents withdraw from us

This is insane!! I’m what you may called a “Gomo” – a gothic-emo, but even wen I was just plain emo I never once self harmed!!
It’s not as straightforward as you make it out to be: u say it’s all about hate and death – well try actually listening to some of our music – because most of the time it’s about loved ones!!
Im 31, I’m a guy, I’m gay, and the friends who I used to hangout with helped support me in difficult times; such as bullying.
I grew up in a normal house, in a normal city, and I love sports – it goes to show how stereotypes aren’t worth listening or paying any attention to.

To all parents of emo kids reading this:
The only time u have to step in and worry is wen your child selfharms – which may I point out is rarer these days.
I was happy, my friends were and still are happy 20ish years later, and we hardly ever cried – but one thing was for sure – we were always there for each other:) xxx

Ok so I want people to understand that My Chemical Romance doesn’t make me want to cut it made me want to keep living and to STOP self harming. I may not wear black or write dark poetry and all that but I listen to all this “demonic” music. You think it’s bad because it makes references to drinking, drugs, and death but did you know that Gerard the lead singer has been sober 9 years now and clean. The whole band sent messages to teens who dealt with depression and self harm that they where worth living and that they where important. I know that most the people on this site believe this too but any of you that don’t and don’t think that this type of “emo” music isn’t appropriate for teens please reconsider because this music saves lives not destroy them.

MCR has saved so many lives before I started listening to mcr I had thoughts of sucide and cut a few times but after I started listening to them it helped my life so much and the are more then just a band and they produce more than just music they have saved many lives and to the parents who are against MCR then stop and think about how you might be destroying your child’s life because u won’t let them listen to it I know u all think I’m being melodramatic but I’m not thus is true MCR cud b saving ur child so keep that in mind. Lastly id like to add that in one of mcrs concert there was a girl with cuts on her wrists and Gerard Way (the lead of mcr) felt horrible and thought it was there fault when most likely they are the reason she is alive. Now- KILLJOYS MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!
